Brisbane Location

Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, is located in the south eastern
corner of the state - 750k south of the Tropic of Capricorn - about 20km
upstream from the mouth of the Brisbane River. This modern city is
characterised by parks and dominated by the Brisbane River which meanders
through the centre of the city. Brisbane has it's share of museums,
galleries and gardens - as well as being close to a variety of natural
attractions within a days driving distance. Mountains, rainforests, rivers
and beaches all lie within an hour or two of the city by car.

      Brisbane is Australia's third-largest city - the largest sub-tropical
city - and the nation's fastest growing capital city with a net internal
migration from the other states of over 1,000 people per month. The climate
is the best in Australia with hot summers and mild winters making for
almost year-round sunshine. Perhaps because of the heat, the city's pace is
deceptively casual - but this beguiling and blissfully warm city is fast
becoming one of the most favoured places to live in the country.

The city is defined partly by history and partly by geography - where the
layout of most of the other states radiates from a more or less central
capital, Brisbane is tucked in the corner of the second largest state,
over 2,000km from the furthest point under it's jurisdiction. Thus while
Brisbane is the centre of government, cities like Rockhampton and
	  Townsville have considerable regional importance.

From the Mt. Cootha lookout the views of Brisbane unfold - stretching for
miles in each direction. South-East Queensland offers visitors a wide range
of attractions - a modern and sophisticated city - rainforest national parks
	  - beach resorts - Moreton Bay - they all lie within easy range of the city.
The compact city centre nestles in looping meanders of the river ensuring
that the city cat is one of the best utilised forms of transport to the
shining glass towers of the city center. The modern towers stand side by
side with historic sandstone churches and colonial buildings surrounded by
parks, gardens and beaches - all the facilities of a modern city with a
	  friendly, easy pace.
